Breaking the Ice, Then Needing It

After 18 days no-running and a suitable amount of pain-free days, I thought it was high time to get back out there.

Thanks to the freezing temperatures it took me half a day to motivate myself to head outside, but luckily I had the sun on my side. Armed with thermal leggings, multiple tops, gloves and my brand-new Brooks Ghosts (the one I won in the Twitter V-day comp), I headed out to the seafront.

I'm not gonna lie. It felt good to be back outside but I was heaving and wheezing like an octogenarian who's been chain-smoking for the past 60 years. Then again, I was going a pretty decent pace (for yours truly at least), just itching to break a sweat and move my legs.

I had 2.74 glorious miles along the seafront and back. Then, at about 2.75 miles into my run, the dreaded pain just underneath my right knee was back. I jogged it out, wanting to make up at least a measly 3 miles and limped the remaining way back home.

Thank goodness there was still snow outside or else I wouldn't have been able to do this, being still freezer-less in Brighton:

Stats for today:

3 miles @ 9:13 mm, ~ 163 HR

Time until Manchester marathon: 6 weeks, 4 days

CRAP!!!
