OM...

This being a running blog, I have very little running stories to share at the moment. Maybe it's time to re-orient this thing?

Meet my new best friend (other than my trusted buddy Vitamin-I):

This gorgeous pinkness has been my almost constant companion since last week. I've done Jillian Michael's yoga meltdown 1 & 2 (to get a full hour in), I've used my Yoga Studio app and I've gone to two different Iyengar yoga classes at my gym. All in all that's five sessions over six days. It's helping me stay sane!

As good as I know that yoga is for you, body, mind, spirit, tush, whatever, I miss breaking a good ole' sweat.  I love my cardio for that. To sweat my bootey off, to look like a hot mess and to feel amazing afterwards. That's what I want.

In an attempt to get my heart rate going (Jillian does that a bit, and no, not just cause she's my girl crush but because her yoga has a lot of cardio elements in it, get your minds out of the gutter!!!!), I headed to the pool. For my first attempt (after an hour and a half of yoga), I swam 825m, which for me is legendarily good.

Public displays of knee-icing are totally acceptable, right?

Monday night, G and I headed to the gym together as my barre class was cancelled. I was hoping to make it onto the bikes or cross-trainer, but my knee was hurting too much so I didn't want to risk it. Instead I swam a whopping 1,000 m. Yup, that's me. Swimming a kilometer in the pool. Too bad that I need to be able to run that, plus an additional 41k in less than 8 weeks now.

Anyhoo, I'm trying to stay positive. Nothing's lost yet and as my wise friend RunnerB said to me the other day: it's better to show up at your race under-trained than injured.

After yet another Iyengar yoga class yesterday morning (I'm not sure this is the perfect yoga style for me but it'll do for now!), I headed to the seafront to soak up some of that glorious sunshine we've been having.

It's about a mile to the café and a mile back home. I walked it at a snail's pace, being very conscious of my knee, any pain, and the way my foot landed on the ground. It was alright. For the most part, I was pain-free. So that's 2 miles for this week. BOOM.

I'm not gonna go crazy and attempt a 10-miler tomorrow. But maybe this is getting just a little bit better... Keep your fingers crossed for me.

    1. Thank you! Must be the time of year for injuries?!

I'm pretty sucky at swimming too. I do breaststroke throughout and maybe a few lanes on my back. I can't crawl to save my life, it's rather embarrassing and I don't dare practice cause it's THAT bad! ;)

  2. I'm impressed with your attitude and ability to change focus to yoga and swimming. When I can't run I get depressed and eat and drink more! You may have inspired me to get back in the pool...

    1. Thank you!!! I won't take credit for the swimming but yeah on the yoga. I guess it centers me a bit and keeps me sane for the moment. I hope you're enjoying the Yoga Studio app!!!
