It's Friday, it's almost the weekend, what's not to be happy about?
So remember how I used to (and loved to) run? Right.
Remember how I like my CrossFit? Right again.
Yesterday I got lucky enough to rock up to a WoD (workout of the day, for those a bit slower on the uptake and/or not regular readers) that was pretty much nothing but running.
Strangely enough, I had just thought that morning how so far I've always missed out on all the days were WoDs included 1-mile runs or even a timed 5k or where the focus sessions were 400m sprints. As of yesterday, that is no longer the case!
Although the WoD was originally meant to be a 5k, they had broken it up due to the horrendous weather forecast. However, by the time I rolled in on my Pashley, ready for class, it had rained itself out. We were still to run the broken-up sets, but in glorious sunshine.
I'd even showed up early at the box to do 20 minutes of my physio exercises as prescribed by Sarah. Unfortunately I only made it through two of the three sets, but with the looming WoD, that was just as well and my hammies were thanking me.
The WoD was as follows:
4 mins. rest
3 mins. rest
2 mins. rest
1 min. rest
Yes, that row was pretty horrendous. But whereas I used to think that I ran faster than I rowed, I was proven wrong, making it through the mile in 7:04. Not sure I could run that fast anymore...
My times for the remaining laps were as follows:
And I was shattered.
This was sprint training par excellence and I felt like I failed miserably. I had a stitch, I really had to push hard not to let the older lady catch me up and well, it wasn't pretty.
Sure, I have to remind myself that this is probably the most running I've done in a good few months, but my little runner's heart had to curl up and shed a tear and feel sorry for itself.
On the upside, that was 3k of running and it was pain free, well, knee-pain-free!
And I ran. Let's point that out. I ran.
Heck yeah, I'm still a runner.
Also, I cycled there and back, that, with the running, I practically did a duathlon yesterday. Just sayin'.
Watch out world, I'm back!
Have a great weekend!
